SSAS – Report Server Action

I was creating a demo for Actions in SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 (SSAS) and was havingg a problem getting the “Server Name” and “Report Path” properties correct.

I finally got a combination that worked. Here are the values I used for a report named “EmployeeReport” in a folder named “Report Sample” on the local server (localhost)

Server Name: localhost/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?
Report Path: Report Sample/EmployeeReport

To make this work in your situation you should enter the correct server name instead of “localhost”, annd the appropriate folder path on the report server to the report you want to render.

  • Thanks!!I am a technical trainer in India, was required to give the demo of Reporting Action tomorrow.
Without your advice it wudn’t have been possible.

  • Thanks Bret. I was having exactly the same issues as you – not anymore! Thanks again.

  • Hi Brett,
Thanks. in this post does the SSRS report already developed or SSAS creates a SSRS report?
    can you Please clarify

  • M,

The report needs to already exist on the SSRS server. The SSAS Action merely directs the user off to the report hosted on the server.

I should mention as well, that this could be any report, that pulls data from anywhere. It doesn't have to be a report that reports on data from SSAS.

  • Brett,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    Much appreciated.
In my case, the drill through action i provided creates a excel dump which the users want to customise rather than a full dump of dimensions fields. I was planning to create a report action and pass parameters from dimensions to the SSRS report

this is my first shot. will these trigger from proclarity as well?
    Mike, (M)

  • Mike,

They are available to any client application that asks for them. I haven't tried it specifically from proclarity myself, though I expect proclarity should expose them.
